Dandelion is secretly one of my favourite sheep but don’t tell the others. She is a very individual character, she follows me everywhere when she feels like it all over the fields and out of them if she can push her way past! Dandelion doesn’t like to eat from the feed buckets or trough with the other sheep instead she prefers to jump up at me and carefully plant her face into the feed bucket to snatch a few mouthfuls. She is so fussy that she won’t even take food from my hand anymore. Quite a few of the other sheep have started copying Dandelion including her twin sister Dotty. They are daughters of lovely Fleur and Sven. I was really surprised when she and her sister were born I wasn’t expecting spotted lambs from Sven and I wasn’t expecting brown lambs from two black parents but knowing already that Fleur carried the brown gene, the birth of these two proved that Sven also carries the brown gene. Dandelion true to her name really likes eating dandelions! I think most sheep do to be honest but I can remember when she was a lamb she would always stop to munch on the dandelions on her way to the field every morning. She has an incredible fleece with long flowing locks and a fine soft undercoat. Dandelion’s 2020 fleece has been wet felted into a stunning felted fleece rug. Parting ways with that beautiful fleece is not an easy thing to do but the sale of it will help feed Dandelion and friends over the next winter. I have saved her first fleece though I couldn’t resist having a bit of Dandelion in my own home.
