I bought Alice from a lovely lady in Dolgellau at the beginning of 2018. Initially, I went to buy just 1 Valais Blacknose cross Greyface Dartmoor ewe but I came home with 2 of those (Nora & Dorris) and Alice who around 5 months old. When I first met Alice I fell in love she was the cutest cuddliest little sheep just so friendly and utterly gorgeous, so when her owner offered to sell her to me I was absolutely delighted. Alice has an incredibly beautiful fleece, I have used it for needle felting and spinning but mostly for wet felting – for which it isn’t the easiest to work with but gives amazing results. Alice has always been a very gentle friendly sheep and even though I shouldn’t have favourites Alice is secretly one of my favourite sheep. It is thanks to her, Nora and Dorris that the flock expanded so much in 2018, not that they had lambs but rather that they inspired me to look into different breeds and to take in other sheep who needed a home. Before owning these 3 I was only used to owning hardy little primitive sheep who are very different from the docile Greyface Dartmoors and huge Wensleydale sheep. Most of Alice’s first lamb fleece was sold to handcrafters as were some of the long locks from her second fleece. I also used part of that fleece myself to wet felt some special angel wings for Elsie to wear in her first-ever school nativity. Alice’s fleece was the perfect choice for them.
Parents – Alice’s mum was either Dobby or Hagrid. I think to look at photos and fleeces her mum is Dobby. Alice was not born and bred here which is why I do not know for certain. Her dad was a coloured Greyface Dartmoor ram called Ellis.
Colour genetics – Alice shows the white pattern but as her dad was coloured (browny/grey) there is the possibility of her having coloured lambs.
