Description
Handcrafted felted fleece wool cushion made from part of Alice and Hermione’s 2021 fleeces…
This beautiful one of a kind cushion is made from pure wool and love. Every element of it is handmade. The gorgeous long curly cream fleeces of Alice and her friend Hermione have been used to create the dreamy fleece side. They have also been incorporated into the heavily textured reverse side which is also made of felted wool.
I used a mix of light beige/tan and white fleece from a sheep called Muffin and a selection of my handspun yarn from these 3 sheep along with locks to create the pretty felted panel for the back of the cushion. The panel was made in such a way that the cushion’s wool stuffing does not spill out. Front and back of the cushion are decoratively stitched together with handspun wool also from Alice. The two handmade pottery heart buttons were bought from a fellow crafter in the UK and allow the cushion to be opened and the natural wool stuffing removed or added to. This means you can handwash the cover of the cushion and replace the stuffing if ever necessary.
Alice and Hermione who take credit for this cushion are Wensleydale cross sheep who live with many other sheep friends at my home on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales. They have the most amazing thick wavy woolly curls that have a silky hair like feel to them and make the most stunning felted rugs, seat covers and now cushions! This particular cushion was made with leftover locks from Alice’s 2021 fleece. But there wasn’t quite enough so I used some of Hermione’s slightly curlier and finer locks to complete the front of the cushion. Each wool lock is individually arranged in a wooden frame before it is wet felted by hand. A time-consuming process but well worth it for the end results.
I don’t buy in ready prepared processed wool everything is made by my hands here at the farm. The only parts of this cushion that are not are the pottery buttons and the thread holding them in place.
This cushion will look truly beautiful in any home. It is ideal to place upon a sofa or bed and admire. Perfect to add a touch of decorative woollen luxury and keep you cosy! This cushion has been made with light use in mind I would suggest that it is cared for gently. It is a piece of art and best suited to decorative purposes and light use. Being made of only wool (and the odd bit of hay…) it is completely biodegradable and kind to our planet…
Please note like most felted fleeces it may shed wool/fibers to some degree – however, with this cushion that is minimal.
Dimensions: Measurements taken on the fleece side are approx 68cm x 48cm that is including the wool locks. The reverse side is smaller approx 58cm x 38cm. The depth of the cushion is around 15-25cm depends where you measure.
Wool texture: The feel of this fleece is almost hair-like. It isn’t coarse it is somewhat soft and silky and like hair.
Colour: Hairy fleece side – The colour of the fleeces used for this cushion is a natural creamy white colour with a bit of a shine to it. Felted back – The colour of the reverse side is a mix of beige tan and creams and white.
VM(aka hay/grass seeds etc): I used the clean parts of Alice and Hermione’s fleece for this cushion and spent a lot of time removing any noticeable bits of debris that I’d missed. However, you may still find little bits of dried leaves and grass seeds as this is a natural unprocessed handmade piece.. these are very few and far between and only add to the naturalness of this handmade piece.
Felted wool fleeces and cushions are best suited to light use and a clean environment but will last for years and years if cared for and treated with respect. This cushion can be unbuttoned and the wool stuffing removed so the cover can be hand washed.
Like everything I make it is a unique item even more so as each sheep’s fleece is never quite the same each year, many factors affect it, weather, age, diet etc. I shear the sheep myself with traditional blade shears taking great care not to harm them or their fleeces. The proceeds from the sale of this fleece will help pay for Alice and Hermione’s and their flockmates’ food, care products, and any veterinary help they need throughout the year.
If you have any questions or queries at all please send me a message I will be happy to help.

We keep a well-loved, high welfare flock of pet and rescue sheep on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales. Our sheep are a part of the family and each is known by name. All our wool and makes are vegetarian-friendly as we do not breed or sell sheep for the meat market and our sheep live out their natural lives with us. I am a full-time mum and shepherdess. In my (none existent!) free time I make things from wool from the sheep in order to sustain them.
