Porridge is a Greyface Dartmoor cross Gotland sheep. There is a great story behind her life here. She came from the same farm as Wilma and Merry where they have a huge flock of pedigree Greyface Dartmoor sheep and 3 Gotland ewes. Her mum was a Gotland ewe and she had a twin brother. Both Porridge and her twin were destined for the same fate as most lambs – the freezer. Whilst they were being loaded along with some other store lambs for a 1-way journey Porridge managed to escape and get back in the field. They couldn’t face trying to round her up and decided to leave her behind. She saved herself and was spared her brother’s fate… When I was enquiring about buying Wilma I was offered the chance to buy Porridge as well. And here she is – I must admit I did think twice when I viewed her at the farm, she looked like trouble. She was very untrusting when she first arrived here but with time, cuddly companions, and a bit of food bribery she has been thoroughly won over and is no trouble at all. Her fleece is huge, long, and lustrous – perfect for felted fleece rugs.
