Puzzle was born here in 2013. Her dad was a pedigree Soay ram and her mum was Claris a 3/4 Jacob 1/4 Shetland crossbred sheep. Puzzle has inherited the look of a miniature Jacob sheep with the wild spirit of her Soay dad. When Puzzle was 5 days old she managed to trap one of her front legs in a gate hinge in the barn. My husband and I rushed her down to the vets fearing she had broken her leg. Thankfully she hadn’t and it was only a sprain. Puzzle was a very friendly youngster but as she grew her wild instincts took over somewhat and she became quite tricky to catch. Puzzle often causes chaos when we are trying to bring in her flock and is very stubborn when you need to handle her. She still enjoys coming over for a fuss though but only when she is sure you don’t have any ulterior motives to catch her. She is a very clever crafty sheep. In 2019 I made a lovely peg loom cushion using Puzzles fleeces. I only used the brown patches from her fleeces for this but because she is such a small sheep with a short staple fleece I had to use wool from 2 years worth of her fleece to create the cushion. Although she has such a small fleece some parts of it are incredibly pretty and beautiful to work with. Puzzle has had 2 gorgeous lambs in the past called Cinnamon and Womble who both moved on to new homes when they were weaned. I don’t think Puzzle will have any more offspring but you just never know with having rams around accidents have happened in the past on more than one occasion…
