Description

Felted fleece Runner bench cover handmade from Dandelion’s fleece…

A felted fleece runner handmade with Dandelion’s fleece. This was made with a leftover part of Dandelions 2021 fleece, it is actually the central part of her fleece. The rest of the fleece was used to make cushions and collars and this is all that remained. I thought it was a good shape for covering a bench so I layered some backing wool on the underside and felted it with the intention of offering it at a reduced price to my normal crafts as it was a leftover part and as I did little to prepare it or shape it and it is not the prime or fanciest part of her fleece. Even still I think it looks rather lovely on a bench or bed or even as a fancy decoration for a table center piece!

It is important to me to know where every part of my crafts comes from and I am always open and honest with you lot too. The carded wool on the back is from Pip, Marmalade and Norbert. This piece is entirely made by my own hands and flock.

Size: The felted underside is 105cm length. On the fleece side it measures 130cm length with the locks. Width is 18-30cm on underside felt and 35-45cm on the fleece side with the locks.

Wool texture: The feel of this fleece is hairy.

Colour: A mix of light tan and white colour locks.

VM(aka hay/grass seeds etc): I have done my best to remove any remnants of the Welsh hillside from this fleece, it has been brushed down the center. However, it is you may still find the odd little bit of dried leaf and grass seeds as this is a natural handmade piece.

All felted fleece pieces moult or shed to some degree some more than others. With this particular fleece runner from Dandelion, it does moult a little but not greatly due to being brushed out.

Dandelion is one of my bestest sheep buddies she is very naughty which is probably why I love her so. She launches herself at me when I am trying to feed the flock often sending me flying and spilling the food. Dandelion refuses to eat feed from the feed troughs, she will only eat from the bucket before the other sheep, shes a bit of a snob. Dandelion also habitually grazes through the fences, I hardly ever see her grazing from the field she is actually in, shes always got her head through a fence eating the ‘greener’ grass on the other side.

All my sheep are hand-shorn by me with traditional blade shears taking great care not to harm the sheep or fleece…

This is a completely handmade product with almost every element created by myself and Humphrey and the flock at our farm in Wales. The sale of it directly sustains the sheep and enables them to live out their whole lives here munching away growing beautiful wool. You can’t get more ethical than that.

If you have any questions or queries at all please send me a message I will be happy to help.

We keep a well-loved, high welfare flock of pet and rescue sheep on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales. Our sheep are a part of the family and each is known by name. All our wool and makes are vegetarian-friendly as we do not breed or sell sheep for the meat market and our sheep live out their natural lives with us. I am a full-time mum and shepherdess. In my (none existent!) free time I make things from wool from the sheep in order to sustain them.
