Description
Rustic handmade woven wool rug. Made using the 2017 & 2018 fleeces grown and donated by a sheep called Bussie Lizzie. Handwoven on a large frame loom in our barn using the washed fleece and natural jute twine. These natural woven rugs are all unique and can be woven in a huge variety of ways. Perfect as bedside, bath side and fireside rugs or even as a throw on a bench or sofa they bring a warm cosy touch to any hard surface.
I shear all our sheep myself with traditional blade shears. The fleeces have then been carefully washed and woven on my handmade loom. This is a beautifully natural unique item, perfect as a gift or treat for your home!
The sheep who provided the wool is called Bussie Lizzie, she is a beautiful little Soay cross Jacob sheep, you can see her in the photo. Her fleece is a wonderful soft primitive type fleece, that is very soft and fluffy with lovely structure. She is a special needs sheep having had a stroke 2 years ago and will happily live out her natural life grazing our fields. This is her natural colour and is 100% wool with natural jute twine used for the warp. It is a beautiful natural rustic product that has been made in its entirety by just 1 person (me!) it has not been heavily processed, you may find the odd grass seed or plant leaf embedded in the wool that just add to the lovely character and pureness of the piece. You may also notice that your rug gets fluffier or felts over time, it may sometimes shed hair/wool as is the nature of these wild natural rugs!
It is designed for light use in the home and will last for years to come.
Measurements are approx 108 cm long by 60 cm wide woollen area. It is quite thick and chunky. As it is handmade it is not perfectly uniform like a factory produced item would be and does have a slight taper on the width being 60cm measurement at one end tapering to 64cm the other end. And unlike most factory produced items this is eco-friendly, biodegradable, traceable right back to the individual sheep who grew the wool and the sale of it will directly support my sheep flock and family. It is also vegetarian-friendly as our sheep are kept purely for fibre and as pets and not for meat.
Price includes postage to UK mainland and the rug will be posted with myhermes.
