Description
Needle Felted Snail Bookmark
This gorgeous needle felted snail bookmark is carefully handcrafted from natural wool from our flock. He would make the most wonderful quirky gifts for gardeners and book lovers. His shell is a real snail shell that was found in our garden. The shell was empty upon finding it so don’t worry no snail was evicted. I clean and varnish the shells before attaching the needle felted snail body. The body is made from wool that is needle felted around a wire frame to give more strength to the snail. This is then inserted and glued into the snail shell and all the little details carefully added. The eye tentacles are made from wire wrapped in a tiny amount of wool. The last thing to add is the snails silvery trail that is made from handspun braided wool yarn – this forms the bookmark bit. You can sandwich the silvery trail between the book pages and the snail will happily sit upon the book cover. This snail is highly detailed and very well made by hand. He would make a wonderful unique special gift and will come wrapped up snuggly in a little cardboard box.
Please view the photos you will receive the very snail that is in the photos.
Size: The snails body measures approx 6cm in length. Total length with his silvery trail is approx 42cm.
This wee snail is made by a process called needle felting. Needle felting is a way of working and sculpting dry wool using special barbed needles. Repeated stabbing of the wool using these special needles causes the fibers to interlock and tangle and if you work it long enough you end up with a firm solid piece of felted wool. All my needle-felted items are very solidly felted with carefully added details. They are not flimsy soft needle felting they are worked until the felt is hard and firm. Crafted with a lot of love and care, never rushed and made properly they take a surprising amount of time to make and that’s not even including the time spent shearing the sheep, washing the wool, carding, dyeing or spinning the little tails! My needle-felted crafts are priced according to the amount of time spent making them.
Please note – This is NOT a toy. It has been created for display and decoration purposes only. It is made from small needle felted wool pieces and hairy textured wool and so could pose a hazard for babies or small children. Please DO NOT give to children under 3 years old.

A lot of time, care and love goes into all my items they are all individually made one at a time my hands and sheep – from caring for and shearing the sheep, washing the wool and crafting an item to the packaging and posting – hand (and sheep) made in the truest sense of the word.

We keep a well-loved, high welfare flock of pet and rescue sheep on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales. Our sheep are a part of the family and each is known by name. All our wool and makes are vegetarian-friendly as we do not breed or sell sheep for the meat market and our sheep live out their natural lives with us. I am a full-time mum and shepherdess. In my (none existent!) free time I make things from wool from the sheep in order to sustain them.
