Needle Felted Spider Bookmark
This spooky needle felted spider bookmark is made by me at our home in wild North Wales using natural wool from my flock and a touch of magic. He would make wonderful a quirky gift for book lovers, witches and lovers of creepy crawlies. I love books and I love cobwebs and spiders so I decided to combine the two! This spider is hanging from a long braided wool thread which is made from handspun wool yarn that I have spun myself and then braided.. The cobweb/thread is the bookmark and can be sandwiched between the pages of a book. Buying one of these bookmarks is a great way to support and feed my flock this winter 🙂
Please view the photos, you will receive the exact same spider in the photos, luckily he did survive his photoshoot with the sheep! 🙂 He would make a special gift and will come nestled in a little cardboard box.
Size: Mr spider has a spherical body about 3cm in diameter. His length including the cobweb and legs is 55cm.
This bookmark is made by a process called needle felting. Needle felting is a way of working and sculpting dry wool using special barbed needles. Repeated stabbing of the wool using these special needles causes the fibers to interlock and tangle and if you work it long enough you end up with a firm solid piece of felted wool. The spun legs and braided bookmark are attached by threading them through the felt and needle felting over the ends so they are properly and securely attached. No glue is needed or used.
The inspiration for my needle-felted spiders comes from a love of cobwebs and spiders. Living in the countryside in an old stone house you can imagine many spiders choose to make their homes here too 🙂
All my needle-felted items are very solidly felted with carefully added details. They are not flimsy soft needle felting they are worked until the felt is hard and firm. Crafted with a lot of love and care, never rushed and made properly they take a surprising amount of time to make and that’s not even including the time spent shearing the sheep, washing the wool, carding, dyeing or spinning the little tails!
Please note – This is NOT a toy. It has been created for display and decoration purposes only. It is made from small needle felted wool pieces and hairy textured wool and so could pose a hazard for babies or small children. Please DO NOT give to children under 3 years old.

A lot of time, care and love goes into all my items they are all individually made one at a time my hands and sheep – from caring for and shearing the sheep, washing the wool and crafting an item to the packaging and posting – hand (and sheep) made in the truest sense of the word.

We keep a well-loved, high welfare flock of pet and rescue sheep on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales. Our sheep are a part of the family and each is known by name. All our wool and makes are vegetarian-friendly as we do not breed or sell sheep for the meat market and our sheep live out their natural lives with us. I am a full-time mum and shepherdess. In my (none existent!) free time I make things from wool from the sheep in order to sustain them.
