Description
Needle Felted Wool Highland Cow
This cute little needle felted Highland cow is made from 100% wool and real natural ginger Highland cow hair handcrafted from sheep (and cow) to finish. Her eyes are pure wool and her tail and legs are made from carefully handspun Highland cow hair (which is not the easiest thing to spin I can tell you!) – she is made entirely at our farm by my own hands. The perfect unique addition to any cow lover’s home she looks very sweet hanging from a shelf especially in a cottage or farmhouse setting and would make a lovely special gift. Completely natural, biodegradable, kind to sheep (and cow) and the planet. She is made with a little bit of wool from our sheep mixed with and some very hairy Highland cow hair from a pet cow who lives on Anglesey. The main part of her body is a mix of said ginger Highland cow hair and a little beige brown wool from Marmalade. The Highland hair was gifted to me from Ema at The Clean Goat Soap Company. You can read a little more about it further below.
This listing is for the ginger Highland cow in the photos. She is presented in a simple card gift box – the perfect present for someone or perhaps for yourself!
The little Highland cow is part of a special little collection of different breed cows that are available on different listings. The cows do vary ever so slightly in size with some being shorter and rounder and others a little chunkier and hairy, some like this one have even been made with actual Highland cow hair, they are all a little different and very cute.
Size – She measures approx 9.5cm long nose to bum (not including tail) and 6cm high including her legs and horns.
All my needle felted items are very solidly felted with carefully added details. As such, each takes a very long time to make, the hanging cows each take over 3 hours to make at the felting stage. That is not including the time spent shearing the sheep, washing the wool, carding, dyeing or spinning the little legs and tails!
The inspiration for the needle felted hanging cows came from being gifted a bag of real hairy Highland cow hair from some friends (Ema and Steve) who own The Clean Goat Soap Company. Ema’s dad lives on Anglesey and owns two Highland Cows who he brushes regularly. Ema heard that I was curious about felting with Highland cow hair and kindly sent me a bag of her dad’s pet Highland cow’s hair! Which is the actual hair I have used to make some of the needle felted cows. I have always had a soft spot for cows and in fact, I once owned 3 dairy calves who I hand-reared. They were a Jersey, a Brown Swiss cross Jersey and a Friesian cross Jersey. Unfortunately, as they grew rather large I realised reluctantly that I couldn’t keep them long-term so I had to let them go to join a herd but I have very fond memories of them.
Please note – This is NOT a toy. It has been created for display and decoration purposes only. It is made from small needle felted wool pieces and hairy textured wool (and cow hair) and so could pose a hazard for babies or small children.

We keep a well-loved, high welfare flock of pet and rescue sheep on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales. Our sheep are a part of the family and each is known by name. All our wool and makes are vegetarian-friendly as we do not breed or sell sheep for the meat market and our sheep live out their natural lives with us. I am a full-time mum and shepherdess. In my (none existent!) free time I make things from wool from the sheep in order to sustain them.
