Description
Handmade beautiful natural wool rug hand woven on a peg loom. 100% Herdwick wool woven on natural jute twine and finished with unique fleece tassels on each side!
This gorgeous piece was made using a shearling Herdwick fleece that I purchased from a sheep Sanctuary, so the sale of this rug is supporting 2 flocks of sheep! It is all made from the same fleece including the little tassels! Adding fleece tassels is something I came up with to bring a bit more character of the fleece and a wildness to my peg loom rugs. This is a very time consuming process but gives a great effect once finished. Pegloom rugs made in this way are generally a little more expensive to to the extra time involved. It was woven in the raw and thoroughly washed upon completeion. It looks amazing as a bedside rug or placed upon a wooden or stone floor! The texture is coarse and it does shed hair, this is the nature of Herdwick fleece/wool.
There may be the odd bit of natural vegetable matter such as little pieces of hay imbedded deep within woven fleece. All part of the natural charm and very normal to find amongst the fleece of a sheep!
Perfect as a gift or treat for your home! This is not just a rug but a unique piece of art and there will never be another the same! Whilst it took many hours to make this it too the sheep a whole year to grow this wool! Due to the coarse wool used this rug is durable and resistant to felting.
Free postage to mainland UK with myhermes or Royal Mail is included in the price. Remote islands and overseas buyers will need to cover postage costs please contact me to purchase if you are an overseas buyer. Any over charges will be refunded. Measurements are approx 76 x 56 cm including the tassels. As mentioned above, this is handmade and is not a perfectly uniform shape like a factory produced item would be, it is natural and unique. And unlike most factory produced items this is eco-friendly, biodegradable, traceable right back to the individual sheep who grew the wool and the sale of it will directly support my sheep flock and own family.
As wool is a wonderful natural product from a happy sheep and has been completely processed by my own hands there is most likely still the odd grass seed and whisp of hay to be found amongst the fibres though I have done my best to remove them. This is the beauty of nature and sheep 🙂

We keep a well loved, high welfare flock of pet and rescue sheep on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales. Our sheep are a part of the family and each is known by name. All our wool and makes are vegetarian-friendly as we do not breed or sell sheep for the meat market and our sheep live out their natural lives with us. I am a fulltime mum and slave to sheep! In my (none existent!) free time I make things from wool from the sheep in order to sustain them.
