Skeleton Horse Unicorn Bookmark

This gorgeous skeleton horse unicorn bookmark is handmade from natural sheeps wool from our flock. Her legs and horn are made from pieces of drift wood that I’ve collected from local beaches on the Llyn Peninsular. Her body is sculptured from a blob of sheeps wool by using special barbed needles to felt and shape the wool. The wooden legs are inserted and glued into place to secure then. A little copper wire is threaded through and then wrapped in wool to form a poseable tail which is also where the ‘bookmark’ element begins, an extension of the tail made from handspun and braided natural wool – this can be sandwiched between the pages of a book. All the little details like eyes and the skeleton markings are added last by carefully needle-felting more wool on top of the base in the desired patterns. This little skeleton horse / unicorn would make a really unique special present. She is highly detailed and very well made with lots of care and love.

Please view the photos you will receive the same unicorn bookmark that is in the photos. She will come tucked up in a little cardboard gift box.

Size: The unicorns body measures approx 8cm in length and 8cm tall. Total length with his long white tail is approx 52cm.

This little skeleton horse unicorn bookmark is made by a process called needle felting. Needle felting is a way of working and sculpting dry wool using special barbed needles. Repeated stabbing of the wool using these special needles causes the fibers to interlock and tangle and if you work it long enough you end up with a firm solid piece of felted wool. All my needle-felted items are very solidly felted with carefully added details. They are not flimsy soft needle felting they are worked until the felt is hard and firm. Crafted with a lot of love and care, never rushed and made properly they take a surprising amount of time to make and that’s not even including the time spent shearing the sheep, washing the wool, carding, dyeing or spinning the little tails! My needle-felted crafts are priced according to the amount of time spent making them.

Please noteThis is NOT a toy. It has been created for display and decoration purposes only. It is made from small needle felted wool pieces and hairy textured wool and wood and wire and so could pose a hazard for babies or small children. Please DO NOT give to children under 3 years old.

A lot of time, care and love goes into all my items they are all individually made one at a time my hands and sheep – from caring for and shearing the sheep, washing the wool and crafting an item to the packaging and posting – hand (and sheep) made in the truest sense of the word.

We keep a well-loved, high welfare flock of pet and rescue sheep on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales. Our sheep are a part of the family and each is known by name. All our wool and makes are vegetarian-friendly as we do not breed or sell sheep for the meat market and our sheep live out their natural lives with us. I am a full-time mum and shepherdess. In my (none existent!) free time I make things from wool from the sheep in order to sustain them.
