Unicorn Needle Felt Wool Decoration ‘Sugarlump’ Gift Set

Meet Sugarlump the dainty little wool unicorn. He is handmade with love and wool and a sprinkling of magic!

Sugarlump is part of a little decoration set he sits alongside 3 felted wool stars and is carefully tucked up in a little gift box. He is made entirely from wool and wire. Yes, he has a little copper wire inside his horn, tail and neck so these parts of him are poseable, you can carefully bend them and adjust the way they look. His dangly legs are made from handspun wool yarn and his wonderful curly mane and tail are made from individual locks of wool from Campion the sheep. He hangs from a length of jute twine as do the 3 stars. This set would make a very special gift and is perfect to adorn the home of any unicorn fan! This is not a children’s toy please bear that in mind.

Size: Sugarlump – he is small but mightly cute! Approx 10cm nose to bum in length 16cm including the fluffy tail. 11cm high from base of the leg to the ear tip (not including the mane and horn). Small stars are 4.5cm approx and medium star is 6cm across.

The process: These decorations are made from natural and hand-dyed wool. The are made with a process called needle felting – the wool is shaped and sculptured and repeatedly stabbed with a special barbed needle causing it to felt. Sometimes wire is wrapped with the wool to make the finished item poseable as is the case with Sugarlump’s horn, tail and neck. Sugarlump’s body is made with wool from a sheep called Harley, you can see a photo of him on the gallery. The coloured wool used for the stars and details comes from Mango the sheep and the wonderful little curls of his mane and tail are from Campion who is pictured having a nosey at Sugarlump himself! To create coloured wool the white fleeces were washed and then popped in a large bubbling pan, a little magic dye was added, given a good stir and ‘poof’ the white wool is transformed!

All my needle-felted items are very solidly felted with carefully added details. They are crafted with a lot of love and care. They are not rushed so they take a surprising amount of time to make not including the time spent shearing the sheep, washing the wool, carding, dyeing or spinning the little legs! This is a completely handmade product every wool element has been created by my hands and the flock at our farm in Wales – the sale of this item directly sustains the sheep it pays for their feed and upkeep of the land enabling the flock to live long happy lives here munching away growing wonderful wool.
